The State Revenue Committee
discusses carbon pricing at an international forum
The staff of the SRC MF RK took part in the International Forum on Carbon Pricing, which was held on September 25-26, 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The event, held in a hybrid format, was organized by the Intra-European Organization of Tax Administrations (IOTA) together with the State Tax Service of Azerbaijan. IOTA brings together the tax authorities of 44 countries to share experiences and best practices in the field of tax administration and financial reforms. Kazakhstan has been a member of IOTA since 2012.
The Forum brought together experts in the field of carbon regulation, who discussed current international practices related to the carbon tax, emissions trading systems and combined models. The main focus was on reducing carbon dioxide emissions and stimulating a "green" economy through tax measures.
An important part of the discussion was the differences in international approaches to carbon pricing, which makes it difficult to coordinate global efforts on climate change. Special attention was paid to minimizing the economic impact on developing countries.
