A pilot project on labeling and traceability of tobacco product has launched in Kazakhstan

On October 1, 2018 a pilot project on labeling and traceability of tobacco products (hereinafter - the Project) was launched.

The purpose of the innovation is the implementation of product traceability from the manufacturer and importer to the final consumer by applying a digital identification code to the packaging.

The implementation of the Project will ensure for manufacturers the protection from unfair competition, as well as the protection from the purchase of counterfeit products for consumers.

In accordance with the Order of the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 862 dated September 28, 2018 “On several issues of the pilot project on labeling and traceability of tobacco products”, the methodological recommendations for the project implementation and the timing were approved, and the information system “IS LTT - Information System for Labeling and Traceability of Tobacco Products” was developed.

Project participants:

The State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter - the SRC MF RK) is the authorized body for labeling and traceability of tobacco products;

The entities engaged in the circulation of tobacco products are tobacco manufacturers, wholesale organizations, retail organizations, importers - willing to voluntarily participate in a pilot project;

“Kazakhtelecom” JSC is a developer and administrator of “IS LTT - Information System for Labeling and Traceability of Tobacco Products”.

Project implementation period: for manufacturers - from October 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019; for importers - from February 10, 2019 to April 30, 2019.

All the necessary information on labeling of tobacco products is available on the websites of the SRC MF RK https://kgd.gov.kz/ and NCE RK “Atameken” http://atameken.kz/.
